THE WARDROBE EDIT

FALL IN THE CITY

Three looks for the season ahead, from easy daytime dressing to work and evenings out.

BY INA ELISKA

Start with the piece that returns every fall: a great trench. The Row's version works especially well with faded denim, a cardigan and pale blue shirting for an easy daytime uniform. Keep it relaxed with The Row loafers, or switch to Jimmy Choo pumps when you want the same look to feel a little more dressed up. The red gloves are the finishing touch. A small hit of color against all those camel, blue and brown tones.

Purple is one of the colors defining fall this year, and it becomes much easier to wear when paired with deep brown and grey. A soft Chloé polo sweater or Lisa Yang’s cashmere-silk T-shirt brings the color in without taking over the look, while tailored trousers and rich brown leather make it feel right for work. Finish with loafers for the day, or a pointed heel when the occasion calls for something more elevated.

All black is always a good place to start after dark. Anine Bing’s silk skirt with a black knit or simple white tank keeps the look sensual without feeling overly dressed, while Isabel Marant’s snake-print boots add just enough provocation. Add the leather jacket and a dark red bag, and the result feels sexy in a way that is more about texture and attitude than showing too much.
