THE SUEDE SEASON

There is something about suede that feels particularly right at the beginning of fall. Softer than leather and richer in texture, it gives familiar pieces a new character. We've curated a selection of the best suede pieces, from coats and jackets to bags and shoes, along with a few more unexpected options such as suede dresses and skirts.

By Ina Eliska

A suede jacket is one of the easiest ways to bring the texture into a fall wardrobe. Cropped silhouettes, utility styles and longer, blazer-like shapes give the familiar fabric a much wider range, while shades of chocolate, tobacco and olive make it especially appealing for fall. Wear one with denim now, then layer it over knitwear as the temperatures start to drop.

Suede Jackets

Suede makes an even stronger statement in longer lengths. From belted trenches to clean, straight-cut coats, the material gives classic outerwear a richer, more tactile feel. Brown and olive remain the most natural choices, but black and deep burgundy make suede feel unexpectedly modern.

Suede Coats

Suede Shoes

Suede has a way of softening even the sharpest shoe. Pointed pumps feel less severe, while knee-high boots take on a more sensual, almost ’70s quality. We’re loving the pumps paired with jeans or tailored trousers, while the boots add a little edge to skirts and dresses.

Suede feels especially good on bags. There’s something undeniably luxurious about reaching into a beautifully made suede bag for your wallet or lipstick. Slouchy shoulder bags and oversized totes feel softer in the material, while woven finishes add even more dimension. Go minimal, go Bottega woven, go Prada Bonnie with buckles — whatever you desire.

Suede Bags

Suede Separates and Dresses

This is where suede becomes a little more unexpected. A suede dress has enough presence to stand on its own, while skirts and trousers bring the texture into everyday dressing in a less obvious way. We love a long suede skirt with a simple knit or shirt, and suede trousers paired with something lighter on top to keep the look from feeling too heavy.
