STEPPING INTO FALL

A new season calls for a new lineup of shoes. Fall and Winter bring a shift in the way we dress, and footwear is one of the easiest places to start. From everyday flats and loafers to knee-high boots, sneakers and statement styles, the season offers plenty to choose from.

We’ve narrowed it down to the key shoe styles worth considering now, along with the pairs we think are worth adding to your wardrobe. Whether you’re looking for an everyday pair to wear on repeat or something to give your seasonal outfits a little more impact, consider this your guide to the footwear we’ll be wearing in the months ahead.

Pumps

Before we get to the more obvious Fall and Winter shoe styles, let’s not forget about pumps. They may not be the first shoes that come to mind for the colder months, but paired with the right tights, they can be just as relevant for the season ahead.

This is also where things get fun: the tights you choose can completely change the look of a pump. Sheer, opaque, patterned or colored tights can give the same style a completely different feel, making pumps one of the more versatile additions to your Fall and Winter wardrobe.

For this edit, we’ve picked some of our favorite new-season pumps from Reformation at an excellent price point, alongside beautiful pairs from some of our favorite designers. Whether you’re looking for an everyday classic or something with a little more personality, these are the pairs we’d be looking at this season.

Loafers are one of those shoes that make getting dressed a little easier. They’re polished enough to work with tailored trousers and dresses, but comfortable enough for days when you’re on your feet. They also transition easily between seasons, making them a particularly useful addition to your Fall wardrobe.

When temperatures drop, pair them with thick socks for a warmer, more relaxed look, or try knee-high socks with skirts and dresses. It’s an easy way to keep your loafers in rotation as the weather gets colder while giving the styling a distinctly Fall feel.

As with our other picks, we’ve included some more affordable styles alongside pairs that are worthy of an investment.

Loafers

Ankle boots are a Fall and Winter staple, and one we find ourselves reaching for particularly often with pants. They look great with everything from tailored trousers to jeans and wider-leg styles, creating an easy finishing touch for an everyday outfit. But they work just as well with skirts and dresses when you want to bring a little more weight to the look.

For this edit, we’ve picked a mix of heeled styles, along with a couple of great flat pairs for days when comfort comes first. From well-priced options to a few more special pairs, there’s something for every wardrobe and budget.

Knee-High & Over-the-Knee Boots

When it comes to Fall and Winter dressing, knee-high boots are hard to beat. They look particularly good with skirts and dresses, but can also be worn over trousers or jeans when you want a more layered look. A classic leather pair will take you through seasons, while suede and more sculptural shapes can make the look feel a little more directional.

And then there are over-the-knee boots. They bring a little more drama to an outfit and work especially well with shorter hemlines, whether styled with a mini skirt, dress or shorts. We’ve included both classic knee-highs and a few over-the-knee options in our edit, ranging from understated everyday pairs to styles that make more of a statement.
